Pot-in-Pot Systems

Nursery Supplies is proud to be an early originator of the Pot-in-Pot System. Our pot-in-pot container design is the best option on the market for in-ground growing. These containers use our durable, heavier Grip Lip container in the ground as your socket pot and the more economical Econo Grip as your liner/growing pot to produce healthier plants in a quicker time frame than conventional growing techniques.

Pot-in-Pot

Pot-In-Pot by Nursery Supplies has proven itself to be a very remarkable way to combine the natural advantages of field growing with the control and convenience of above-ground growing. The benefits of this type of container growing are enormous, and can be used by virtually any grower, in any area, under conditions that are dry or wet, flat or hilly, mild or harsh. Plants grow faster, labor costs are reduced, plants are healthier and harvesting can take place year round.

potsizePot-in-pot is used primarily by growers of large plants and trees (most commonly in #15 or #25 pots), but has been successfully used with pots as small as seven gallons.

The installation of a pot-in-pot system does necessitate higher initial costs, but in the long run growers have found that the savings they experience in production and labor expense significantly outweigh the costs.

NSI Pot In PotThe pot-in-pot system is one of the best ways to grow healthier plants. Because the pot is placed in a socket in the ground, the environment the plant grows in is much easier to control – The plant won’t blow over in strong winds – the root ball will maintain better temperatures – fertilizer and water can be controlled easier – and harvesting your crop is as easy as lifting the pot out of the socket, saving your plants roots. Healthier Plants – Your customers will thank you!

As one of the originators of the Pot-in-Pot System, Nursery Supplies’ Grip-Lip containers remain the best container designs for this method of in-ground growing.

Recommended Pot-In-Pot Containers

Pot-in-pot utilizes two separate containers: a socket pot (the pot that stays permanently in the ground) and a liner pot (the pot that slips into the socket pot and holds the soil and plant). When the tree is ready for sale, the liner pot is simply lifted out of the socket pot and is ready to go to market. A new liner pot is inserted into the socket pot and a new growing process can begin. There are many combinations available for pot-in-pot growing. Your local Nursery Supplies dealer salesperson can help determine which combination will work best for you. The table below contains the most popular recommended combinations.

Benefits of the Pot-in-Pot System

Pot-in-Pot containers and the pot-in-pot growing system offer tremendous benefits to growers.

Harvest All Year

This system can be used by virtually any nursery, in any area, and under any condition.

With this growing method, you can harvest all year round, unlike growing plants in a field where you cannot harvest in extreme temperatures or weather conditions.

Sell Plants Anytime

The pot-in-pot system is comprised of two parts; the durable Econo-Grip™ inner or production pot and the outer in-groud permanent Grip-Lip™ pot.

Contrary to harvesting field-grown plants, container-grown plants from a pot-in-pot growing system can be sold at any time of the year at short notice. The inner Econo-Grip™ pot can be simply removed and transported with little effort.

Low Cost, Higher Savings

Although the initial cost of this system is higher; most growers report saving money in the long run. The pot-in-pot growing system is more efficient and saves time and expense in both production and labor.

Plants grown with this system tend to finish faster and are ready for sale sooner than plants grown in the ground.

Healthier Plants

Because the pot is placed in an outer socket in the ground, the environment the plant grows in is much easier to control. The plant won’t blow over in strong winds, and you can easily control the application of fertilizer and water to the plant.

This production system, typically used on caliper-sized trees and large shrubs, protects the roots from extreme temperatures. As such, the root ball of plants will maintain better temperatures.

With all these benefits and more, the Pot-in-Pot system is one of the best ways to grow healthier plants with exceptional growing success.
